Better Focus Ratios = Less Confusion
As your focus ratios improve, there is less and less confusion due to neurological suspension happening. You are actually performing better with less visual input, less conscious planning, which allows your brain to concentrate on fewer things when the target is in the air. In turn, this allows your brain to orchestrate fewer things at higher and higher levels.
At 95-5, you see a pair, and due to your inventory, you look at it once and your thought is “I’ve seen this before and I know exactly what to do - let's roll.” Your pre-shot visual has evolved to fewer and fewer parts due to using the priming words - one word - and all the mechanics of the shot are instantly known and in place. Then you do your mantra in your rhythm – close, address, “pull,” dead pair. Result was exactly like the expectation, so repeat it again and repeat it again until they tell you to get out of the cage.
Then you slip into that 98-2, which I’ve been in. I slip into that every time I start coaching. I play off people's expressions and their emotions their facial expressions tell me what they're thinking. I watch their eyes, and I’ve been able to step in, slide into that 95-5, then that 98-2 zone.
